NCP at Airports: Understanding Your Charge
NCP operates car parks at a number of UK airports, providing short stay, long stay, and sometimes meet-and-greet services. Airport parking with NCP involves pre-booking online, barrier entry, and either pay-on-exit or pre-paid systems. Charges can arise from overstays, booking issues, barrier failures, and zone confusion.
Pre-Booking Disputes
Most NCP airport customers pre-book their parking online. Common issues include the barrier not recognising your booking reference, arriving at the wrong NCP car park at the airport, the system recording a different vehicle registration, and booking dates that do not cover your actual travel period. If your pre-booking failed, keep the confirmation email, app screenshots, and any reference numbers. Contact NCP customer services first, as these issues are often administrative errors that can be resolved quickly.
Flight Delays and Extended Stays
If your return flight was delayed, causing you to overstay beyond your booked parking period, this is a valid defence. You had no control over the airline's schedule, and the delay forced you to exceed the parking duration. Get evidence of the flight delay from the airline or a flight tracking service and include it in your appeal.

Zone Confusion at Airports
Airports often have multiple NCP car parks: short stay (near the terminal, expensive per hour), long stay (further away, cheaper daily rate), and sometimes premium or meet-and-greet options. If the signage was unclear and you ended up in the wrong car park, or if the shuttle bus service from long stay was confusing, explain this in your appeal. Airport roads are stressful to navigate, especially when you are running late for a flight.
Barrier Issues on Return
Arriving back from holiday to find the exit barrier will not accept your ticket or payment is a particularly frustrating experience. If this happened, photograph the barrier, screenshot any error messages, and note the time. If you pressed the intercom for assistance, note how long you waited and what was said. Any time spent stuck at the barrier due to a system failure should not be charged to you.
NCP Court Risk
NCP does not routinely pursue unpaid airport parking charges through the County Court. They may send reminder letters and debt collection correspondence, but the risk of actual court proceedings is low. Appeal with confidence if you have valid grounds.
