Indigo at Hospitals: Your Appeal Guide
Indigo (formerly known as Vinci Park) manages parking at a number of NHS hospitals and healthcare facilities across the UK. They use pay-and-display machines, barrier systems, and pay-by-phone options. Indigo hospital charges are typically £60 to £100 and can be challenged on several grounds.
Understanding Indigo Hospital Parking
Indigo hospital car parks often have multiple tariff zones with different prices depending on how close you are to the main entrance and how long you plan to stay. Patients rushing to appointments may not have time to study the tariff board carefully, particularly when stressed about their health. If the tariff structure was confusing, this is a legitimate defence.
Compassionate Grounds
Hospital settings provide the strongest compassionate appeal grounds. If your appointment overran, you had a medical emergency, you were waiting for test results, or you were visiting a critically ill patient, explain these circumstances in your appeal with supporting evidence.
The most effective evidence includes hospital appointment letters with timestamps, a letter from the clinic confirming delays, PALS support letters, and ward visiting records. Gather as much as you can to support your case.

Payment System Failures at Indigo Hospitals
Indigo hospital sites use a range of payment systems, and failures are not uncommon. Pay machines may be out of order, the pay-by-phone system may have errors, or the barriers may not read your ticket. If you tried to pay but the system prevented it, document everything: photographs, screenshots, bank statements showing attempted payments.
If a machine was broken and the nearest working machine was a significant walk away (particularly relevant for patients with mobility issues), this adds weight to your appeal.
Getting PALS Support
Contact the hospital PALS team as your first step. PALS teams are experienced with parking complaints and often have an established relationship with Indigo. They can request charge cancellation for genuine patients and visitors, and a PALS support letter significantly strengthens your formal appeal if needed.
Indigo Court Risk
Indigo generally does not pursue unpaid parking charges through the County Court. This means the risk of escalation beyond letters and debt collection is low. You can appeal with confidence, knowing that even if the appeal process does not go your way, the consequences are limited.
